History
| The
Ossell's have been on the prime
corner of Princeton since 1958! Charlie's parents, along with
their
best friends, the Johnsons purchased the business and building from a
company
called Gamble Skogmo. The building itself had been a department
store
since the early 1900's; actually we should refer to it as a mercantile;
as that is what that type of store was called at the time. Ossell
and Johnson was a complete store, in that they sold everything a family
could use, furniture, linens, fabric and all sewing needs, men's,
women's,
children's and work clothing. People didn't travel as far to shop
as we do now, so they had it all. Unfortunately in 1963 the
"corner"
burnt down due to an electrical fire within the store. It was
rebuilt
into a more "modern" look. Mr. & Mrs. Johnson retired in
1980,
so the store was renamed; Ossell's of Princeton. The Ossell's
have
been the sole owners since that time. |

WE HAVE A PLAN: We want to take
the store back to
its "ORIGINAL" look; that distinguished brick, two
story. We are in the midst of investigating if it can house the
second story, if not, we will give it the facade of that look.
Wish
we could bring back that beautiful, old, slightly creaky wood
flooring!
All the fabulous manequins and display counters were lost in the fire;
they're hard to find, but we are looking for that wonderful ambiance of
the 40's!!
The photos on this page show you a bit of how the
city of Princeton
looked in the 40's - very stately!
We hope you like what we have to offer,
Sincerely,
Carol & Charlie Ossell
